Clermont County Prosecutor Mark J. Tekulve announces that charges including aggravated murder and aggravated robbery were filed against three people relating to the death of Jayden Nelson of New Richmond.

On March 8, 2026, at approximately 0414 hours, officers responded to 1070 Bethel New Richmond Road, New Richmond, OH 45157 in reference to a possible hit/skip. On arrival, they found Jayden Nelson, 19, dead in the roadway.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with the Clermont County Coroner’s Office, noticed some irregularities that did not align with a hit and run. An autopsy conducted the following day confirmed their suspicions and revealed that Nelson had died from a gunshot to the head from close range with the bullet lodged in his brain. The Ohio State Highway Patrol began working with the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office Surveillance Analysis and Forensic Evidence Unit (S.A.F.E. Unit), a new state-of-the-art forensics lab run by the Coroner’s and Sheriff’s Office to investigate this case.

In a short period of time, they were able to piece together a crime that had no eyewitnesses other than those involved in the offense. Through relentless searches and around the clock forensic analyses, the agencies were able to locate and arrest two male juveniles, N.W., 17, and C.G., 16, and one adult male, Dakarai Campbell, 19.

The trio had made their way to New Richmond in the early morning hours of March 8 , with thousands of dollars’ worth of marijuana, under the guise of selling it to Nelson. Instead of a sale, the three robbed Nelson of more than three thousand dollars and his cellphone and left him dead on the side of the road.

While the group fled and tried to cover their tracks, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, and the S.A.F.E. Unit caught up to them in short order. Their investigation not only uncovered the murder, but a wide-ranging drug operation with cross-county ties involving several other individuals.

“This case is once again a terrible reminder of the danger of trafficking in any type of controlled substance. Too often, the youth of our counties get caught up in a world of drugs and violence and face few repercussions. In Clermont County, we do not tolerate this type of behavior and those involved in these types of actions will be brought to justice and will face severe penalties. Our citizens deserve to feel safe in this county and my Office is committed to holding those accountable who would disturb that peace.”
