Statement from Clermont County Prosecutor regarding identity of trench cave in victim

Clermont County Prosecutor Mark J. Tekulve released the following statement in response to requests for the name of the deceased victim in the trench cave in.

My office along with the agencies involved have received requests for the name of the victim of the tragic trench cave in on December 5, 2025.

At this time, we are not releasing the victim’s name pursuant to Marsy’s Law which protects that victim’s information from being released until the next of kin have had an opportunity to agree to that release.

Unfortunately, the victim’s father is currently hospitalized and we are awaiting contact with other family who can authorize (or not) the release of the victim’s name.

Our local media has a long history of being respectful to victims and their families in those trying times. I am certain that that will continue in this instance.

The investigation into the incident continues, including the review of potential criminal charges.

Your continued prayers for the family and surviving victims are appreciated.
