Man Sentenced to 7-9 Years in Prison for Road Rage Shooting on SR 32
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 30, 2023
Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve announces the conviction and sentence of William Tyler McNichols. On September 20, 2023, William McNichols entered a guilty plea to one count of Felonious Assault with a Firearm Specification and one count of Tampering with Evidence.
Today, October 30, 2023, Judge Anthony W. Brock sentenced William McNichols to 7 years in prison with a maximum indefinite sentence of 9 years. The investigation, indictment, conviction and sentence were truly a team effort. This case began with a 911 call to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office. The caller stated that he had just been shot at while inside his vehicle, traveling Westbound on SR 32, in an apparent road rage incident. The bullet struck the lower portion of the hatch of the victim’s vehicle. The Investigative team of the Sheriff’s Office quickly located a witness who had spoken with shooter, McNichols. Investigators learned that McNichols called a friend, a trooper with the State Highway Patrol, and admitted to what he had done.
At the sentencing phase, Assistant Prosecutor, Jesse J. Taylor, argued that the influx of road rage incidents involving a firearm in Clermont County needs to be taken into consideration when the Court fashions an appropriate sentence. There must be a deterrence for future conduct similar to this case.
“I greatly appreciate the efforts of the entire team; the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Swallen, Corporal Scott, Deputy Eyre, Deputy Dales, Trooper Ellis, and my assistant prosecutors, among many others. The citizens of Clermont County need to feel safe when traveling on the roads in our County. Road rage puts all the members of our community at risk for harm and we will prosecute these cases aggressively.” – Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve
