Man Indicted on Five Felonies for Threatening Social Media Posts That Forced School Closure
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 20, 2024
Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve announces that on May 16, 2024, Timothy Longar was indicted for five felonies: Inducing Panic (Felony of the 2nd Degree), two counts of Disrupting Public Services (Felonies of the 4th Degree), and two counts of Violating a Protection Order (Felonies of the 3rd Degree).
Longar posted a series of messages on social media that caused alarm to the St. Columban School Community which prompted the administration to close the school on May 7, 2024. There is an active Civil Protection Order against Longar on behalf of the school and some of its administration specifically. One of the conditions in the protection order is that Longar is not to post messages on social media about the protected parties. The messages not only named some of the protected parties, but they were also disturbing, violent, and threatening. Because of the messages, several parents contacted the school to alert the administration. St. Columban School cancelled classes out of fear that Defendant would come to the school and cause harm and Loveland Police responded to the school to investigate the threats.
The Court maintained the bond at $2 million dollars with conditions that Longar was not to have weapons, contact anyone at St. Columban School or Parish, or have access to electronics, social media, or the internet.
“The safety of the students and faculty in our community is of the utmost importance,” Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve.
