Man Found Guilty of Aggravated Robbery and Abduction After Holding Gun to Mother and Chasing Her with Their Child in Car
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 7, 2025
Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney Mark J. Tekulve announces that Reco Alexander Coleman was found guilty on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Abduction, and Endangering Children following a two-day jury trial concluding on February 5, 2025. Coleman will be sentenced on February 28, 2025. He faces up to 27 years in prison.
On May 2, 2024, Reco Alexander Coleman (“Coleman”) arrived at the victims’ residence to collect money that the adult victim, the mother of his child, agreed to lend him. However, after receiving the loan, Coleman demanded more money that she did not have. After securing their 1-year-old daughter into her car seat in her mother’s car, Coleman held a gun to the mother’s side and demanded that she go to the bank to get more money. Coleman attempted to take her cellphone, so that she could not call the police, but she grabbed it out of his hands before getting into the car and driving off. Coleman followed closely behind the victim’s car to force her to drive to the bank. At different points, the victim attempted to get away, but Coleman drove quickly and erratically to keep up with her, and chased her and their daughter wherever they went.
After continuing to chase the victim’s vehicle, Coleman eventually cornered her in a parking lot, got out of his car and attempted to open the door to the victim’s car. In a desperate act to avoid him, the mother quickly pulled off, dragging Coleman, who was hanging on the door handle. She then called her own mother, who called 911. The victim and her baby drove to meet her mother and officers with the Union Township Police Department at a location where Defendant would not find her.
Coleman was apprehended by law enforcement later that day. Officers recovered the firearm used in these offenses in Coleman’s vehicle. Detectives also located text messages where Coleman had been threatening to kill the mother if she didn’t give him the amount of money he wanted.
“I commend my Assistant Prosecutors who tried this case, along with the Union Township Police Department. We will not tolerate gun violence or dangerous driving, especially while a one-year old child is put in harm’s way.” Mark Tekulve, Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney
