On April 29, 2021, after a three week jury trial held before Judge Jerry McBride, Angelina Hamrick was found guilty of killing her estranged husband, Jason Hamrick. Hamrick was found guilty of one count of Aggravated Murder with a gun specification. Her sentencing will be scheduled for a future date.
Clermont County Prosecutor Mark J. Tekulve is proud to announce that the conviction was secured through the hard work and dedicated efforts of Assistant Prosecutors Katie Terpstra and Robert Barbato. Terpstra and Barbato spent countless hours over 18 months preparing for this case. The trial was continued three times due to the pandemic.
On June 30, 2019, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office was asked to investigate a report of a missing person. Jason Hamrick had been expected to attend a family function in Indiana that afternoon, but Jason’s son notified family members that no one had seen or heard from Jason for two days. Jason’s estranged wife, Angelina Hamrick, was found at the marital residence with their sons and had no explanation about Jason’s whereabouts.
Later on June 30, 2019, Jason’s body was found about half a mile from his home in Tate Township. He had been executed with a gunshot to the top of his head and his body and clothing showed evidence of being drug across a hard surface for some distance after his death. The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office is to be commended for the outstanding investigation conducted by numerous Deputies into Jason’s death. The Sheriff’s Office discovered multiple items of evidence at the Hamrick residence, on and around Jason’s body, and between the Hamrick residence and the location where Angelina dumped Jason’s body.
Angelina Hamrick’s boyfriend told investigators that Angelina had been planning the murder of her husband in order to obtain custody of her children. He additionally told investigators that she had called him following the murder of Jason on June 28, 2019 and admitted that she had just killed Jason in the marital home. Angelina told her boyfriend that she intended to dispose of Jason’s body and the other relevant evidence and clean up the crime scene.
Detectives found evidence of a massive amount of cleaned up blood in the family room area of the home. Additionally, they found drops of Jason’s blood in the basement and deck of the home, as well as on Jason’s van.
Ms. Hamrick is facing up to life in prison. The Prosecutor’s Office will seek the maximum sentence allowable under the law.
